Settling into Almaty with work and sleep.

Although most of the team safely landed at the Almaty Airport at 7:00 am, we were ready to work! After walking through the vegetated and vibrant streets of Almaty, we arrived at Almaty Management University, or AlmaU, where we were warmly welcomed and settled in quickly. We met up with the rest of the Kazakhstan Global Social Impact Fellowship Teams (Swello, SaltX, Central Asian Researchers Network (CARN), Save Tuba, and PureSpaces), Vice Provost for Creative Inquiry, Khanjan Mehta, and our faculty advisor, Dr. Dhruv Seshadri.

On the first day, most of our work consisted of reaching out to local clinicians and professionals to schedule meetings, focus groups, and clinic shadowing opportunities. In addition, we organized logistics for our upcoming AI in Medicine workshop, including confirming our panel speakers, reviewing content, revising the schedule, and finalizing event details. On the device and website front, we updated the website with minor revisions, including adding a battery percentage indicator. Finally, we were able to upload our first post onto the NeuroTech Devices LinkedIn, outlining TremorTrack and Swello’s goals and the fellows involved for this year.

We finished our work flow with dinner and a run-down of rules, expectations, and events from Khanjan. Then, we set out on the mile-long evening walk ahead, settled into our living quarters, and quickly fell asleep to make up for our day's worth of jet lag.
